Educational context for NAHS - grades 9-12

NAHS is a high school that encompasses grades 9 through 12. Three elementary schools (K-4), one intermediate school (5-6) and one middle school (7-8) feed into the high school. The high school student population is about 1, 600. The teaching staff numbers right around 100. There are three tech integration coaches across the district. The high school has a tech specialist with hours for a help desk for student Chromebook issues. Across the district, all students are 1:1, with Chromebooks at the middle and high schools, and iPads at the primary level. All classroom teachers have a Chromebook, an iPad and a projector and screen where they can project from either device. The entire district uses Schoology as the learning management system. There are wireless routers throughout the building to improve connectivity.

Current Technology Status

Access to hardware and connectivity is above average. The students received new Chromebooks this school year. Connectivity issues are not a common occurrence. The curriculum director is generous with paying for subscriptions that teachers utilize heavily (i.e. Quizlet and Kahoot). There has recently been a focus on having teachers integrate AI into their curriculum. However, the training sessions have been one hour here and there, which has far from instilled confidence across the board. There has been no district-wide or building-wide integration of any technology since the adoption of Schoology. Therefore, there is a wide spectrum of technology integration among the teaching staff, without much consistency or a common framework. But, three technology coaches spread across 6 buildings would not offer sufficient support for an all-encompassing technology integration.
