Charting the course: The technology integration roadmap

Embark on a transformative journey with Bridging the Gap for Educational Technology Integration. Oue comprehensive roadmap guides educators through the exciting process of integrating generative AI and the 4 Shift Protocol into the classroom. Discover the phases, support systems, and exciting milestones that will empower you to redefine learning.

Phase 1: Foundation and preparation

The journey must begin with a solid foundation. First, the Director of technology education and innovation and the tech coaches will research the latest developments in generative AI for classroom use and dive deep into the principles of the 4 Shift Protocol. Following this, a comprehensive teacher training schedule will be crafted, spanning the entire school year to ensure continuous learning. Available funds may also be considered for a motivating back-to-school speaker at the initial training. An initial whole-group session during August PD will introduce and inspire, followed by a survey to assess current comfort and knowledge levels regarding AI in the classroom. It is important that PD sessions are at least half-day, ideally full-day sessions, allowing teachers ample time to digest information and discuss.

Phase 2: Initiation and experimentation

With foundational knowledge in place, early fall PD will feature homogeneous breakout sessions based on survey feedback, introducing AI basics aligned with the 4 Shifts protocol. Teachers will then have dedicated time to experiment with these tools in their own classrooms, fostering practical application. Administrators will actively identify lead teachers who are embracing innovative risks. After identifying more potential tech leaders, November PD will allow for subject-specific breakout sessions, providing a platform for teachers to share successes, learn from challenges, and collaboratively brainstorm new ideas.

Phase 3: Engagement and reflection

Ongoing support is paramount. Throughout the school year, administration must facilitate informal sessions during and after school, alongside an online forum for seamless teacher collaboration and continuous conversation. Teachers will always have the opportunity to pose questions, continue problem-solving and celebrate successes. Dynamic peer-to-peer discussions based on real classroom experiences will help foster confidence and camaraderie among staff. Throughout this time, administration will be observing and collecting data, and conducting a final survey resulting in a data-driven end-of-year review demonstrating collective achievements. It will also be important to leave room to brainstorm, share ideas and needs for the next school year.
